As a professional waxing specialist with over 16 years experience, I have waxed a few legs and know the importance of having a good soft wax, a great non woven waxing strip to remove it with and good waxing techniques.

A great waxing strip for soft wax systems not only makes body hair removal so much quicker, it saves time and your clients, especially first-time leg waxing clients, will love the excellent finished result.

A great waxing strip will not fray or tend to pull apart as fabric strips do. It is strong but flexible to remove wax in contours on legs, bikini and under arm areas and gentle to use on facial hair.

Here are my tips for first time leg waxing customers. Remember, they will be anxious so you need to be sensitive, reassuring and very efficient.

It is good to explain the growth cycle of the hair. A normal hair follicle has a growth spurt every three weeks and the idea is to pull it out by the roots in the fourth week, so leg waxing is usually done every 4 to 5 weeks. Eventually hair growth lessens and because a new hair is growing it is soft and appears finer. No more bristles

1- The hair should be at least 5mm long. I know those who have previously shaved their legs think any hair on them is gross, but if you can encourage them to leave the shaving for preferably 3 weeks before waxing, the first results will be far better. I suggest to them to do this in winter so they can hide their legs wile the hair is growing. Ask them to exfoliate their legs before their appointment and not to put any oil or body cream on that day. If they have, you can put surgical powder on the area to help the waxing strip adhere to the wax.

2-Removing the first strip is likely to be the most painful so I start the process on the lower outside of the leg where it is least sensitive. With a spatula, spread the wax in small sections in the direction of the hair growth. Hold the spatula at a 90 degree angle and apply a smooth, thin layer. Before the wax cools, fold the top of the waxing strip over by about 3cm and with the folded end away from you, firmly press the waxing strip onto the waxed area in the direction of the hair growth with your hand.

3- Firmly grip the folded end and quickly and smoothly, peel it in the opposite direction of the hair growth towards you. Keep the strip as close to the skin as possible and try not to lift upwards. This is less painful and prevents the hair from breaking. Apply hand pressure straight away to take away the sting. Apply an after wax lotion to prevent ingrown hairs and to soothe the skin.

Excess wax can be removed with a body oil containing essential oils.
